Why CARBONnil ?
the global emergency
The UK NHS
Carbon emission scope
- Carbon emissions are categorized into three scopes (1, 2, and 3) to understand and manage greenhouse gas emissions across an organization's entire value chain.
- Scope 1 covers direct emissions from owned or controlled sources, like fuel combustion.
- Scope 2 includes indirect emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heating, or cooling.
- Scope 3 encompasses all other indirect emissions, including upstream and downstream activities in the value chain.

The NHS has set two net zero targets*
- For the emissions we control directly (the NHS Carbon Footprint), we will reach net zero by 2040, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction by 2028 to 2032.
- For the emissions we can influence (our NHS Carbon Footprint Plus), we will reach net zero by 2045, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction by 2036 to 2039.
- There are already (and these will only increase) incentives for companies “selling” into the NHS
- All NHS procurements include a minimum 10% net zero and social value weighting
- For all new contracts above £5 million per annum, the NHS requires suppliers to publish a Carbon Reduction Plan for their UK scope 1 and 2 emissions and a subset of scope 3 emissions as a minimum

- Carbon Nil Medical is zero emissions for scope 1 and scope 2

- Our homes are 100% renewable energy
- We are fully digital, paper-free
- The majority* of our promotion will be through digital routes which is channel increasingly preferred by HCPs
- When we meet people face-to-face, we will travel by electric car or, if not possible, we will carbon offset the journey
- We will attend relevant congresses, but we will carbon offset travel, accommodation etc and our presence will be very high profile due to unique elements (minimal equipment, trees / recyclable furniture)
- We will work with our partners to ultimately achieve zero emissions in scope 3
(* we expect majority to be 90 – 95% through virtual calls/meetings and digital promotion; this will be measured and reported)
